29th Annual International Congress

Ionian University, Corfu, Greece

May 25 - 28, 2027

Dear MSA Colleagues,

I have important news regarding a change of venue for the 29th annual MSA Congress due to a current university policy at Cadi Ayyad and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflicts. The result being the MSA Advisory Council and Cadi Ayyad University came to an amicable agreement that it was in the best interest and safety of all involved to postpone the 2027 Congress in Marrakech to a future date. This was not an easy decision but given the circumstances it was the appropriate and most prudent resolution fully supported by me as Executive Director and every member of the Advisory Council.

I am however, pleased to inform you that we have been successful in obtaining a wonderful alternative venue for 2027. It is the Ionian University founded in 1824 as the first institution of higher learning in Modern Greece and located on the beautiful Ionian island of Corfu. The MSA has a long history with the Ionian university having held one of our most successful congresses there 16 years ago. I am sure some of you will be disappointed we are not going to Marrakesh, but I assure you that the decision to change venues was based on very compelling reasons consistent with the values and philosophy of the MSA. Furthermore, we could not possibly have found a more perfect alternative than Corfu.

Given this late change of venues, we are over a month behind in preparing for 2027. But now that we have settled on the 2027 Congress location, we can begin to attack the myriad of tasks for 2027. They include the Call for Papers, revising the website, finding hotels, organizing the historic walking tour and educational post tour, etc.

In the meantime, should you have any questions or comments please forward them to info@mediterraneanstudies.org. In conclusion I want to thank the members of the Advisory Council and others who worked to secure an alternative venue for 2027. Very special thanks to Assistant Director Vaios Vaiopoulos who, thanks to his long relationship with the Ionian University, made this opportunity possible. The dates for the Conference will be Tuesday May 25 – 28, 2027

Have a wonderful and safe summer and I hope to see you in Corfu Town next year,

Benjamin Taggie
