We have an exciting itinerary on the Greek Mainland with the most unique site being the Mani Peninsula, the most southern region of the Greek mainland. Mani is characterized by the unique culture of its Maniot inhabitants and their distinct stone architecture and towers dating back to the early 13th Century.
Of equal uniqueness is the abandoned Byzantine city of Mystras. Founded by the Franks in 1249, it was reconquered by the Byzantines in 1262. The Byzantines developed the city to a scale where it became known as the “Wonder of Morea” (Morea was the medieval name for the Peloponnese). Mystras’ was abandoned in 1832, leaving its breathtaking medieval ruins to be enjoyed by scholars and tourist. The itinerary will also include Bronze Age Mycenae, Olympia, home of the Olympic Games and Epidaurus with its Sanctuary of Asclepius and magnificent theater.
