2025 Available Grants

Dear MSA Colleagues,

I am most pleased to inform you that for the 2024 - 2025 Academic Year, the MSA will be offering two grants and an award which all members of the MSA are eligible to apply for.

Mediterranean Studies Association Grant for Faculty Research

The Mediterranean Studies Association Annual Grant for Faculty Research supports research projects in the field of Mediterranean studies with an award of $3000. Applicants must be teaching faculty from disciplines of the humanities, arts and social sciences who are working across disciplines on a research project that will enhance our understanding of the Mediterranean region.

The Céline Dauverd Endowed Travel Grant for PHD Student

Thanks to an extremely generous gift from Professor Céline Dauverd the MSA can now offer a new Grant to support Ph.D. students who have advanced to candidacy for the doctoral degree. The grant will support students whose dissertation topic requires travel for research in archives, libraries and collections held in the Mediterranean region. The annual grant will award up to $2500 to support graduate students who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program in a recognized discipline of the Humanities or Social Sciences.

Full details and applications can be found here on the MSA website grants page.

Frank A. Dutra Award

Thanks to the generosity of Frank Dutra's family, the Annual Dutra Award with an annual prize of $350 will be awarded to the author of the most outstanding article of the year in Mediterranean Studies as judged by the Editorial Board.
