Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Updated: March 23, 2020

2020 Gibraltar Postponed to 2021

Also: Please read about papers already submitted.

Dear MSA Colleagues,

Given the increasing menace of the Coronavirus pandemic, I am sure it will come as no surprise to you that we are compelled to postpone the 23rd Annual MSA Congress at the University of Gibraltar until May 26-29, 2021. This decision is very painful and disruptive but necessary, given the growing danger of the pandemic and related travel restrictions and possible quarantines confronting Congress participants. I am pleased to inform you that the three institutions hosting the 24th, 25th, and 26th Annual Congress have graciously agreed to move the dates a year into the future to accommodate this unfortunate postponement of the 23rd Congress.

Jennifer Ballentine has been working with the Gibraltar hotels on our behalf. Those of you with hotel reservations at the Eliott O’Callaghan may carry your reservation over to 2021. Those with a reservation and deposit at The Rock may either carry your reservation over to 2021 or request a deposit refund. Reservation holders at the Retreat have been notified their reservation is cancelled. You should contact the hotels and make your arrangements with them. We also extend our thanks to Jennifer for negotiating an agreement with the Rock Hotel (which is contrary to hotel policy) to carry over our substantial deposit for the Congress Closing Reception to 2021. These are difficult times for the MSA, and Jennifer’s efforts are greatly appreciated.

Registrations already received for the 23rd Annual MSA Congress will be honored for the new dates, May 26 - 29, 2021. Walking/Boat tours payments can be refunded but we ask your help in minimizing refunds. The MSA pays a substantial charge for all credit card transactions amounting to thousands of dollars each year. We have already paid to charge your credit card and will have to pay again for every refund we make. It will be financially beneficial if we can hold your payments as credit towards the 2021 Walking Tour. Thank you for your help!

Louise will contact everyone registered for the Congress Post Tour (the exact same tour will be offered next year May 30-June 3) with the option of a refund or using deposit to hold your place for the tour next year. You may do the same for the Walking/Boat Tour.

We thank you in advance for your continued support of the MSA during these very difficult times and we look forward to seeing you in Gibraltar next year.

In the meantime, be safe, keep washing those hands, hunker down and avoid as much social contact as possible.
