MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

JUNE 2016

Dear MSA Colleagues,

The 19th Annual MSA Congress is now history and we want to thank all of you who participated, it was the MSA's largest Congress with over 200 presentations by scholars from 24 nations. Papers were of a very high quality and we encourage you to consider submitting your paper for possible publication in MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES Journal to:

Susan O. Shapiro
Associate Professor of History and Classics
Editor, Mediterranean Studies
Utah State University
Susan.O.Shapiro@usu.edu

The MSA also thanks the University of Palermo, Rector Fabrizio Micari, President of the 2016 Congress, and extend very special thanks to Professor Daniela Santoro and her colleagues for the great success of the Congress.

We now move on to the 20th MSA International Congress at the University of Malta in May 2017. Professor John Watkins, Program Committee Chair will be sending out the Call For Papers in August. We look forward to working with Professor Paul Sant-Cassia, President of the 2017 Congress and the University of Malta. The beautiful and historic city of Valletta will be a magnificent venue for the 2017 Congress.

At this time I offer you a cogent suggestion on hotel reservations. The qualities that make Valletta such a superb congress site also mean it is an extremely popular tourist destination, and by May Valletta is in high tourist season. Consequently it can be very challenging finding hotel accommodations in the Old Town within walking distance of the Congress. For that reason it will be very prudent to make hotel reservations early.

When the call for papers is sent out in August, we will also provide you with a list of old town accommodations for your consideration. Should you delay making early reservations, you may find it necessary to seek lodging in the new town, which is a 30-minute coach ride to the Congress site. We will provide you with additional hotel information in August.

In the meantime, wishing you all an enjoyable, productive and safe summer.
