1. You must be a member of the Mediterranean Studies Association for 2008. Dues are $60. Dues for Editorial Board members are at the reduced rate of $50. If you are NOT a member for 2008, please pay your dues as part of the registration process below.

2. Fill out the registration form. Registration fees are non-refundable. Indicate any optional expenses such as the Wednesday excursions. Please note if you require audio/visual equipment (no slide projectors are available, only digital projectors). You may use the online form or send in a form.

3. Information on the congress hotel is available below.


Registration – Everyone attending the conference is required to complete an official registration form. Individuals not presenting a paper or chairing a session may either pre-register or register on site. All conference participants who are giving papers or chairing sessions, however, must pre-register. THE PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 15, 2008. One form is to be filled out for each person; photocopies are acceptable. Before February 1 the registration fee is $165, and $50 for a spouse or guest. After February 1 the registration fee is $200, and $50 for a spouse or guest. At the Congress the registration fee is $275, and $50 for a spouse or guest. REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. (US currency only.)

NOTE: The $50 fee is for a companion who will not be attending the sessions but who will be attending the evening social events and/or a tour (for which tickets are required). These guests do not receive a name badge or registration packet. They do receive tickets (if applicable) in their companion's full registration packet.

Registrants must pay in US dollars and are urged to use a US bank so as to avoid exorbitant bank fees.  Registrants who wish to pay with a check drawn on a foreign bank may do so, but must add $8 to the total to cover bank fees.

The conference organizers may change activities, topics and presenters when necessary. The organizers shall not be liable for any loss caused by cancellation of the conference due to Force Majeure (including, but not limited to acts of God, hurricane, earthquake, flood, acts of war, terrorism, or other acts of enemies; government regulation; curtailment of transportation facilities; strikes; civil disorder; or other emergency or event beyond the control of the organizers), thus making it inadvisable, unsafe, illegal, or impossible to provide required accommodations and/or meeting facilities, hold the meeting, or travel to the meeting.


Transportation Hamburg is the nearest large airport, but you can also fly into Berlin and take a train.

MSA Airport Bus to Lüneburg

Given the distance from Hamburg to Lüneburg we have chartered a coach to transport you from the Hamburg Airport to Lüneburg (about 1 hour). While this transportation is gratis, we request that you notify the Congress Coordinator, Louise Taggie ( if you intend to avail yourself of the coach. We are scheduling two buses on Tuesday May 27 and one bus on May 28. There will also be a bus returning to the Hamburg Airport on Sunday morning, June 1 (exact schedules and details will be available here 2-3 weeks before the Congress). Reservations are on a first come basis.


From the Hamburg airport to Lüneburg by public transportation

Option 1: Bus “100” (leaves right outside the arrival terminals) to subway station “Ohlsdorf” (duration approx 10 minutes). Take the S 1 to Hauptbahnhof (central station). If you take a “Metronom” (see below) to Lueneburg you may purchase a “Gesamtbereich” Ticket (ca. 7€) when you enter the bus at the airport and this ticket is valid for the entire trip for bus 100, the S1 and the Metronom.

Option 2: Train
Step 1:
Exit terminal 1 or 2 in arrivals and look for the yellow-black busses. Take a shuttle bus to the train station (“Jasper Reisen”). Shuttles leave every 15 minutes until 11 p.m. Buy tickets from driver (ca. 5€).

Step 2: Take a train to Lüneburg (use either of the following companies):
HVV, Metronom (ME, yellow and blue trains) Trains leave hourly a few minutes before the hour until 12 a.m. Purchase tickets from HVV ticket office next to the tourist info center or at the HVV ticket machines. You need a ‘Gesamtbereich’ ticket. At the machine: press “Einzelfahrkarte’ then #6. Cash only. You cannot buy a ticket in the train. Price is approx.7€ and it takes about 30 minutes. Lüneburg is the 3rd stop
OR Deutsche Bahn (DB, white IC trains with red stripes) Trains leave hourly around the half hour until 12 a.m. Purchase tickets from Reisezentrum ticket office or from the red-silver ticket machines with the DB sign (accepts credit cards). You can with some surcharge buy a ticket in the train if you are late. Price approx. 12€ and it takes about 20 minutes. Lüneburg is the 2nd stop.
