MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER 2017

Dear MSA Colleagues,

Summer is over and we now move toward the 21th Annual MSA Congress at the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento May 30 – June 2, 2018. The CALL FOR PAPERS went out several weeks ago and proposals are already being received. We are also receiving numerous questions about hotels, Congress Post Tour, and other matters.

1.   POST TOUR

The Post Tour itinerary and Registration are now on the MSA website www.mediterraneanstudies.org. It is an exciting 5-day, 4-night tour with excellent Four-Star hotels in both Paestum and Naples. Last year many colleagues were disappointed because it was impossible to accommodate all the requests we had for the tour, so please register early.

2.   HOTELS

The hotel situation in Sorrento is challenging. Sorrento is a beautiful small city of 20,000 and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe (if not in the world). Magnificent Valletta was also a hotel challenge last year with an Old Town population of 5000. However, metropolitan Valletta (300,000) is much larger with many more lodging options, and large hotels like the Grand Excelsior. To help with lodging you will find on the MSA website a hotel and B&B’s list for your consideration. Most have a cancellation policy allowing cancellation without penalty, seven days before your arrival date, so I STRONGLY urge you to book now.

3.   WALKING TOUR

You will also find information regarding the Wednesday morning Walking Tour here on the MSA website wwwmediterraneanstudies.org.

Ben Taggie
