23rd Annual International Congress
DEAR MSA COLLEAGUES,
How quickly the summer is passing, fall is but three weeks away and in New England the leaves will soon be changing colors and falling to the ground. That means it is time to get to work on the 23rd Annual Congress of the MSA at the University of Gibraltar 27-30 May, 2020. The Call for Papers has been sent out and we have already received a large number of excellent papers. Gibraltar promises to be an outstanding Congress with an excellent pre-congress walking/boat tour and an exciting post-tour to Morocco. Below you will find information on these matters as well as hotel information.
POST TOUR SUNDAY 31 MAY – THURSDAY 4 JUNE 2020
We have an amazing post tour of five days, four nights in Morocco. It will start Sunday morning with a coach transfer to Algeciras for the ferry to Tangier. The tour will include Tangier, Rabat, Meknes, Volubilis, Fes and Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue City.” The tour will begin and end in Gibraltar. Complete details and registration forms are on the MSA website www.mediterraneanstudies.org
WALKING/BOAT TOUR
WEDNESDAY, 27 MAY 2020 – 10:00am –1:00pm
We will have a unique three-hour combination walking/boat tourt his year. The 90- minute walking tour will focus on the great fortifications of Gibraltar.
Following the walking portion of the tour, you will board a Dolphin Adventures Line cruise boat for a 90-minute cruise around the Rock. Please note that there is an increase in the cost of the tour this year because of the expense of the charter boat. Also please note that unlike past years, we must limit the tour to 28 participants because of the boat capacity.Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
HOTELS
Our Congress President, Dr Jennifer Ballantine has done an outstanding job of finding hotel facilities for us. You will find a list of hotels on the website ranging always from the luxurious Rock and Eliott Hotels, to the very inexpensive (30 Pounds a night per person) Europa Retreat Center. Booking instructions for all of the hotels and discounts can be found on the website www.mediterraneanstudies.org
FYI, at this writing(September 2019), the Pound Sterling is under $1.20 which makes this an excellent time to book and pay in advance for your lodging.
Should you have questions related to any of these matters you cannot find the answer to on the website please contact Louise Taggie, Congress Coordinator info@mediterraneanstudies.org
