Registration Everyone attending the conference is required to complete an official registration form. Individuals not presenting a paper or chairing a session may either pre-register or register on site. All conference participants, however, must pre-register. THE PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MAY 1, 2000. One form is to be filled out for each person; photocopies are acceptable. Before February 1 the registration fee is $125 ($85 for Mediterranean Studies Association members who have paid 2000 dues), and $40 for a spouse or guest. After February 1 the registration fee is $150 ($110 for Mediterranean Studies Association members who have paid 2000 dues), and $40 for a spouse or guest. At the Conference the registration fee is $175 ($135 for Mediterranean Studies Association members who have paid 2000 dues), and $40 for a spouse or guest. REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. (US currency only.) Registrants must pay in US dollars and are urged to use a US bank so as to avoid exorbitant bank fees. Registrants who wish to pay with a check drawn on a foreign bank may do so, but must add $8 to the total to cover bank fees.
Registration includes membership in the Mediterranean Studies Association and a subscription to the Associations journal, Mediterranean Studies. Please make your check or money order payable to the Mediterranean Studies Association and mail it along with your completed registration form to: Mediterranean Studies Association, P.O. Transportation You are responsible for booking your own tickets to Salvador. We have negotiated a special rate through Stellar Travel, our regular MSA travel agency. Round-trip from New York to Salvador is $496. If you would like to add on a three-day stay in Rio after the congress, the total is $599. We also have a hotel package in Rio. Hotels Hotels in Salvador The following hotels are available at the listed rates for the Mediterranean
Studies Association Congress, May 24-27, 2000. To reserve a room you must book through Assessoria para Assuntos Internacionais da UFBA. Rooms
have been reserved for the period May 24-28; however, if you wish to arrive earlier or
stay later we will do our best to arrange the extra nights at these hotels. Payment will
be made directly to the hotel when you check out.
The Transamerica Hotel and the Salvador Praia Hotel are on the beach; the Portobello Ondina Beach Hotel is across the road from the beach. The Salvador Praia and the Portobello Ondina are within easy walking distance of the University. The San Marino is near the beach, but it and the Meridien are much farther from the University (in opposite directions).
