Tuesday, May 31: Depart Lagos for Serra da Estrela. Stop for Lunch in Evora.

Wednesday, June 1: Visit the Serra da Estrela Mountains visiting Linhares, Sabugal and Belmonte.

Thursday, June 2: return to Lisbon with stop at Tomar, Batalha and Alcobaca.
The tour will commence with a visit to the Algarve with two nights at the four-star Tivoli Hotel/Resort in Lagos. Among sites we will see are Cabo Sao Vicente, the most southwestern point of the European Continent, Sagres, where Prince Henry the Navigator may have launched his ships of discovery, the magnificent coastline and beaches of the Algarve and the Roman/Medieval/Moorish city of Silves with it’s Almohad Castle, Gothic medieval cathedral, and Archaeological Museum. On Tuesday morning we depart Lagos for two nights in the four-star historic Pousada Serra da Estrela high in the mountain town of Covilha.The following day we will tour the Serra Estrela Mountains visiting the medieval towns of Linhares and Belmonte, the latter being the birthplace of the discoverer of Brazil, Pedro Alverez Cabral. The final night, a farewell dinner will be provided in the Pousada.
On the June 2nd return to Lisbon, we will visit three of the crown jewels of Portuguese architecture: Tomar’s 12th century castle and convent of the Knights Templar’s and 16th century Manueline cloister, the magnificent Dominican Gothic Abbey of Batalha, and Portugal’s largest church and first Gothic structure in Alcobaca. It was built in the 12th century by Portugal’s first king, Alfonso Henriques for the Cistercians. In the 13th century King Dinis enlarged the Cistercian monastery and built a Gothic cloister.
The tour begins and ends in Lisbon. Arriving Lisbon late afternoon on Thursday, June 2.
